Originally Hard Rock Calling, Calling Festival has brought some of the biggest rock and roll names of all time to Hyde Park. It received a bit of a rebranding in 2014, having lost its sponsors and a sizeable chunk of its budget. This obviously makes it difficult to compete with the commerciality of enormous festivals like Glastonbury, but the intimacy that Clapham Common affords to Calling makes it entirely unique.
The brains behind the festival are keeping everything under wraps this year, so very little is known about the line-up. If previous years are anything to go by, however, then this is a musical event that everyone should take notice of. Last year saw Calling hosting Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds in a one-off event, with support from Echo & the Bunnymen. It’s seen international megastars Aerosmith, soul legend Stevie Wonder, Kasabian, Bruce Springsteen, and glam-rock Gods Bon Jovi.
Now in its 10th year, Calling could be preparing to stage an unmissable hard rock event for all ages. Make sure to give them a like on Facebook and subscribe to their newsletter to be among the first to buy tickets. Prices in previous years have been in the affordable range of £20-30.
Clapham Common is situated within a 15 minute drive from the Megabus stop at Victoria Coach Station, making it the ideal one-stop for a day filled with hard rock. From there it’s just a short detour to the glitzy nightlife of Chelsea, or the constantly buzzing scene of Soho. Or, if you didn’t get enough rock and roll during the day, take a trip near Covent Garden to the Roadhouse Bar and Restaurant. It’s an homage to American rock and roll diners filled with heavy metal trinkets and biker grit. The perfect way to end a boozy day in London.
